My name is Connor

I love connecting with others and working with companies to craft seamless experiences from concept to execution.

My Approach

CoMmunication

In my time both volunteering and being employed in the non-profit space, I have learned it is much easier to have someone agree to meet for an open chat than it is to have someone agree to an ask.

Every part of my experience, from starting a landscaping business going door to door asking neighbours to cut their lawn to now reaching out to companies asking for their support in a fundraising campaign, has been tailored around communication. Meeting with new people and finding common ground with them to build a relationship on has by far been my most successful tactic.

I love Communications so much I got a degree in it!

DELIBERATE

I have worked in fast paced environments my entire life, from entrepreneurship to buying and selling media to now working on events and sponsorship. Throughout that time, I’ve learned to think two steps ahead and plan for what successes and failures might be around the corner. Having a plan, and having a plan for the plan, are a core part of my personality. I have received a lot of praise for my ability to think ahead through every detail.

Donor Portfolio

In my current role, my donor portfolio mostly consists of those in the accounting and financial sectors, including Scotiabank, EY, Raymond James, PwC, and Fuller Landau. I work with company leads year round targeting our Ride events in the Fall. I also work with major families and community sponsors including local restaurants, police & rescue, real estate, and others for our family focused Walk and Education Series Events.

In previous roles I have worked in media as a mediator aiding companies like NordicTrack to purchase ad slots across all platforms such as web, television, and social media. This involved care and precision to ensure media was booked for correct time slots and to be presented to the correct audience through networks like Sportsnet and TSN as well as news channels through Bell and Rogers.

Sponsorship

I have professional experience in business development and partnership management, securing sponsors from a number of organizations. In my role, I have developed a system for identifying potential sponsors, crafting proposals that tailor to the pillars of that sponsor, and negotiating an ask that benefits both parties. In many instances, I have secured repeat sponsors by maintaining strong connections, working with leads throughout the year to highlight sponsorship opportunities that align with organizational goals.

Account Management

My favourite part of my current role, I love working with leads and learning new things about how companies operate that spark new ideas in how we could aid in supporting or fundraising alongside them. Many of my current accounts are long time supporters (10+ years) with the charity and I thrive on finding new ways to innovate and grow on the existing roles that each company plays. My goal with every client is to build long-lasting accounts that contribute to mutual success.

Fundraising

Fundraising is a key part amongst almost any company, whether a non-profit that needs the funds to succeed or a for-profit that uses fundraising to fuel internal projects or build team relationships. Having done so myself for many years along with family and friends, its something that I find comes easy to me. Identifying new opportunities for long-time donors or connecting with new donors and hearing their stories and offering support and ideas are activities I enjoy in my current day to day role.

Event Coordination

Working as a team, I’ve been a key role in planning events for up to 3,000 people, whether targeted towards families and kid friendly activities or corporate professionals looking to sweat a bit on stationary bikes in competitive challenges. Everything from tent setup to bike allocations to fashion shows, I’ve worked and collaborated with team members to organize every detail. I love being on stage to present and talk with families, but also thrive working backstage to plan and organize for the next key moment to keep the flow and energy of an event moving. Identifying issues prior to them happening or handling disruptions on the spot, finding ways to ensure my colleagues thrive or covering for them to keep things running smoothly.

MedTechs

I’ve always been keen to learn about the latest technology when it comes to managing your health and life better. Working with medtechs comes easy to me as someone keen to learn and find ways to improve my knowledge on all things T1D tech, and I’m always looking for ways to share that information with others. When creating new events, finding those that would be able to share information to the demographics attending is always a key step. Medtechs are eager to share their products, and people attending events are excited to learn, so connecting these two is something I’ve learned to enjoy.

SPARK platform

In my time working alongside Scotiabank, I’ve identified the SPARK platform as a potential way to encourage new registrations and donations from Scotiabank staff. Many use the platform to receive recognition for their contribution to charitable events, and I worked with their team to increase compatibility with our own platform to help more donations be funneled towards making a difference

Case Studies

Earthsuds

While working as a graphic designer in university in a student run ad agency, I worked with the creators of EarthSuds to help their vision come to life, working through several iterations of creating the iconic bubble logo and brand, now featured in several hotels as well as in National Geographic for their creative twist on removing unnecessary plastics in shampoo and conditioner bottles.

Peel Regional police & Fire

Peel Regional Police (PRP) has been a long time supporter of community events in the Peel Region, I’ve had the pleasure of working with them for three years now helping revive some of the energy that was lost during COVID-19. Their officers are eager to connect with the local community, and I love seeing kids faces light up getting to sit in the fire trucks or turn on the sirens in the police cars.
